A Bellefontaine man was arrested late Friday night after police say he was operating a motorcycle while under an OVI suspension and showed signs of intoxication.

According to the Bellefontaine Police Department, an officer spotted Tyler Harvey, 26, just before midnight near the Shell station on East Sandusky Avenue and recognized him from a previous interaction involving his driver’s license status.

Police confirmed through LEADS that Harvey did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement and was currently under an OVI suspension.

Officers followed Harvey as he rode westbound on East Sandusky Avenue before turning north onto Main Street and into the Walgreens parking lot.

When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, police say Harvey initially refused repeated commands to get off the motorcycle, at one point claiming he was being targeted.

Harvey eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

During the arrest, officers reported Harvey had bloodshot and glossy eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol.

Police say Harvey refused field sobriety tests and also stated he would not take a breath test.

According to the report, Harvey was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and driving under suspension.

A review of Harvey’s driving record also showed a prior OVI conviction from August of 2025.
