New Member Sworn Into West Liberty Council

The Village of West Liberty Council met in a regular meeting Monday night.

A new council member, Alyssa Kauffman, was sworn in as she will be a part of the safety committee.

Next, Heather Chamberlain, from the West Liberty Business Association, spoke on behalf of the trolley agreement.

She asked the council to go in half to reimburse the driver for their events.

This expense was approved for $200 from the village and $200 from the business association.

Minutes from the May 15th and May 20th meetings were approved and all bills were passed.

Some ordinances were on the agenda, which were also passed:

  • Ordinance 2024-09, amend Fire Department grant received for equipment, over $43,000
  • Ordinance 2024-10, amend water grant equipment, $10,000
  • Ordinance 2024-11, amend Sewer Department, $100,000

In old business, dumpsters, trash rates, and recycling were revisited.

The council is still waiting to hear from the Land Bank update.

Moving into the new business, RITA has 11 accounts past due, but members plan to address this within the next few weeks.

The council agreed to spend $4,000 on portajohn rental for Lions Park.

Council plans to increase spraying for mosquitoes.

This plan is to spray two times in July and August, then one more time in September as they are highly populated in the area.

Updates on these spraying dates will be displayed on the sign outside the town hall.

Some important dates to remember are:

  • June 15th, Garden Tour, 2 PM-5 PM, you can get tickets in the town hall
  • June 20th, Safety Council meeting
  • June 29th, Street Market
  • July 6th, Spring Clean Up, 8 AM-1 PM, at Lions Park
