With temperatures expected to climb into the 90s next week, Rumpke is adjusting its collection schedule to help protect workers from the extreme heat.
The waste and recycling company says crews will begin their routes earlier than usual each day during the week of June 29, starting before the hottest part of the day.
“The high temperatures that are predicted make our job more dangerous. Starting earlier helps protect our team members from heat-related illnesses while ensuring customers continue to receive timely service.”
— Vice President Jake Rumpke
The earlier start times will also help prevent delays in trash and recycling collection.
Rumpke is asking customers to place their trash and recycling at the curb the evening before their scheduled pickup day to ensure it is ready when crews arrive. The company says setting materials out the night before helps prevent missed collections when routes begin ahead of schedule because of weather or traffic conditions.
“Earlier start times prevent service delays for our customers and protect our team from the high temperatures. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.”
— Rumpke District Manager Kevyn Vasquez
The temporary schedule adjustment is expected to remain in effect throughout the week as the region experiences extreme heat, with employee safety remaining the company’s top priority.
