Bellefontaine Police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated driver Sunday morning in the area of US 33 and East Sandusky Avenue.
When they arrived, they found a blue Ford pick-up in the ditch of the US 33 westbound exit ramp to Sandusky.
The driver, Velasquez Thompson, 55, of Lima, was seen standing next to his truck. Witnesses say he was seen throwing bags into the ditch before police arrived.
According to police, Thompson was driving home from a party in Columbus when he pulled over to the side of the exit ramp to urinate on the side of the road. Thompson says he forgot to shift the truck into park before exiting the vehicle and it rolled into the ditch.
Officers found several empty beer cans and a commercial packet of marijuana in the bags Thompson was seen throwing from his vehicle.
He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to the Bellefontaine Police Department for further testing. He blew a breathalyzer test of 0.088 and submitted a urinalysis.
Thompson was cited for OVI, failure to control, and open containers. He was released to a sober driver.
