On Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Jerry Walker, a Vietnam-era veteran and former U.S. Coast Guard member, was honored by the Logan County Commissioners at a special ceremony held at the Logan County Friendly Senior Center.
The ceremony celebrated his decades of dedicated service to the nation.
During the event, Walker was presented with a flag that had flown above the Logan County Courthouse in February.
This thoughtful gesture symbolized the appreciation and respect held for Walker’s years of service to his country.
Walker’s military career began in the United States Air Force, where he served for nearly eight years.
His time in the Air Force took him to various locations across the lower 48 states, as well as several countries, including those in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and Bellefontaine, Ohio, as part of the 664th AC&W Radar Squadron, Walker’s military journey was one of both commitment and adventure.
It was in Bellefontaine that he met and married his wife, starting a family with two children before his discharge in 1972.
Following his time with the Air Force, Walker continued his military service with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1972 until his retirement in 1995.
His Coast Guard career took him to key stations in places like Key West, Florida, and Boston, Massachusetts.
Throughout his distinguished career, Walker rose through the ranks, earning promotions 11 times and serving actively in 10 different assignments.
He retired as an E8 (Master Sergeant) and CWO-2 (Chief Warrant Officer 2), a testament to his hard work and dedication.
In recognition of his long and accomplished career, Walker earned numerous awards and medals and is highly decorated.
Past his time in the military, Walker can be found at the Logan County Friendly Senior Center where he is a former board member and remains active in Friday night bingo.
