The village of West Mansfield has announced that the village council has voted to reestablish the West Mansfield Police Department.
The safety and security of their residents and businesses are of the utmost importance to both the council and Mayor John Newland.
Mayor Newland presented to the council the need for the village to have its own police department.
After several months of research, it was unanimously voted to re-establish the police department which was disbanded in the late 1980’s.
The village has contracted with Michael Thompson, the Chief of Police for the Washington Township Police Department.
He was hired to determine the feasibility of the village, and once passed by the council, to serve as a liaison/interim Chief of Police to establish the police department.
Chief Thompson comes to the village with many years of experience and is actively pursuing and securing avenues to make the establishment of the police department as streamlined as possible.
In recent years, the village has contracted with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to provide police coverage, and thanks Sheriff Dodds for their willingness to provide police coverage for their continued support.
The mission of the police department is to engage with citizens, ensure the safety and security of residents and businesses, and to be proactive regarding issues and concerns in the village.
The police department will be fully operational in early 2025.
Over the next several months, the council, Mayor Newland, and Chief Thompson will be available to answer any questions residents may have.
