The Chieftain Relay Meet at AcuSports Stadium (Bellefontaine High School) on Friday, April 17 turned into a strong showcase for both local programs, as Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan combined for relay wins, field-event depth, and multiple podium finishes across a loaded night of competition. From sprint relays to distance dominance and big throws, both teams made their presence felt throughout the meet.
BOYS
Bellefontaine
Bellefontaine delivered one of the most balanced team performances of the meet, picking up wins, runner-up finishes, and key points across nearly every relay.
The Chiefs captured a meet win in the 4×110 shuttle hurdle relay (1:02.06) and added another championship in the 4×1600 relay (19:05.78). They were consistently near the top in sprint relays, finishing second in the 4×200 (1:30.80), 4×400 (3:32.40), 4×800 (8:30.68), and sprint medley (1:36.15), while also placing third in the 4×100 (45.22).
In the field events, Kyrus Cobb led the way with a pair of top-three finishes, taking third in both the high jump (5-10) and long jump (19-6.75). Curtis Butler III added scoring efforts in both events as well, while Terrance Hayes tied for fourth in the high jump.
Bellefontaine’s throws group also contributed steady scoring, highlighted by Oliver Grandstaff in discus (6th), Derek Greene (7th), and Braelin Saxton (8th). Marek Frazier led the shot put group with a sixth-place finish.
Benjamin Logan
Benjamin Logan showed strong depth across relays and field events, collecting multiple top-five finishes throughout the night.
The Raiders’ best relay finish came in the 4×800, where they placed third in 9:14.02. They also posted fourth-place finishes in the 4×100 (45.39), 4×200 (1:35.87), sprint medley (1:40.89), and 4×400 (3:39.17), staying competitive across all sprint events.
In the field, Owen Stratton cleared 5-8 to tie for fourth in the high jump, while Elliot Carpenter matched that finish in the pole vault (10-6). Roman Maxwell led the horizontal jumps, placing fifth in the long jump (19-3.25).
The throws unit was a major strength, with Gus Bibart finishing third in shot put (44-3) and fourth in discus (136-6), anchoring a solid group effort that also included multiple scoring performances from teammates.
GIRLS
Bellefontaine
Bellefontaine’s girls put together a standout night, highlighted by relay championships and dominant performances in the throwing events.
The Chiefs won both the 4×200 relay (1:48.10) and 4×1600 relay (24:27.90), while adding runner-up finishes in the 4×800 (10:42.67), sprint medley (1:54.08), and 4×110 shuttle hurdles (1:08.97). Their sprint depth also showed with multiple entries in the 4×100 relay.
Individually, Kelsie Snapp delivered one of the top performances of the entire meet, sweeping both the discus (124-1) and shot put (37-10) titles. Her double win provided a major scoring boost for the Chiefs.
Kaeleigh Flora added a tie for third in the pole vault (8-6), while Grace Brown and Ava Layman contributed in the high jump and long jump to round out a balanced effort.
Benjamin Logan
Benjamin Logan’s girls turned in a strong overall team performance, collecting key relay points and multiple field-event podium finishes.
The Raiders finished runner-up in both the 4×100 (51.92) and 4×200 (1:49.63) relays, while also scoring in the 4×400, 4×800, sprint medley, and shuttle hurdle relay.
In the field events, Abby Vance highlighted the day with a win in the long jump (17-4), leading a strong jumping group that also included Storm LeVan in the scoring positions.
The pole vault group provided big points as well, with Penelope Elliott finishing second (9-6) and Scarlett Elliott tying for third (8-6). In the throws, Kyla Godwin (3rd), Kaylee Hays (4th), and Autumn Cline (5th) all placed in discus, with Cline also adding a fourth-place finish in shot put.
